Historic Salisbury is the seat of Rowan County and is located nearly 45 miles northeast of Charlotte. Encompassing a total area of about 18 square miles, it is one of North Carolina’s fastest-growing cities, with a current population of more than 34,000 residents.

In its early days, the city (then known as “Salisbury Township”) was a prominent economic hub along North Carolina’s Great Wagon Road due to its prime location on an intersection of well-established trade routes.

After the conclusion of the Revolutionary War in the late 1700s, Salisbury transitioned into a trading hub for cotton, as well as the county’s business and law center. By the 20th century, Salisbury had a thriving industrial-based economy spurred by the rapid growth of the textile industry and the abundance of textile mills established within the city.

Today, Salisbury is a vibrant community with plenty to offer, from historic attractions to exciting events, the finest culinary venues to world-class golf, outdoor activities, museums and galleries, and so much more. This is a city where every day can be extraordinary.
